Keegan Bradley claimed his first PGA Tour title in more than four years in Japan at the Zozo Championship on Sunday — at the expense of two other players looking to end their personal droughts.

A two-under 68 on Sunday was good enough for a one-shot victory over a resurgent Rickie Fowler, who once again came up just short and finished alongside Andrew Putnam tied second.

Fowler, a fan favourite, has plummeted down the rankings over the past three years without a title, but seems to have rediscovered his form coming into the new PGA Tour season having reunited with Butch Harmon. Putnam himself has not won in four years.

But it was Bradley’s day and he just about managed to hold back the tears after clinching the victory with a tap-in on 18.

Bradley finished with a 15-under total of 265. He bogeyed two of the last five holes, but birdied the 17th to get some breathing space over playing partners Fowler and Putnam.

“It’s not going to be easy, I knew it wasn’t going to be easy,” Bradley said. “Things aren’t easy for me normally.”

“This (victory) is high up there,” he said. “I really put a lot of work in during this off season and this is what I want to do. I want to win tournaments. I want to play Ryder Cups. I want to be in the conversation and this is a good start.”

Bradley’s last won on the PGA Tour at the 2018 BMW Championship, while Fowler last tasted victory at the 2019 Waste Management Phoenix Open.
