Phil Mickelson is confident that LIV Golf is the ‘winning side’ in their season-long battle with the PGA Tour in terms of popularity, players and eventually earning ranking points.

The American moved to LIV from the PGA Tour in time for the opening event at Centurion Outside London, as the three-round, shotgun-start, no-cut series was launched in June.

Dispite the months-long feud with the PGA Tour — LIV Golfers have been banned from competing in PGA events —six-time major winner Mickelson said, until both sides sit down and talk out an agreement, sides will be chosen.

“I think going forward you have to pick a side,” he said ahead of the Individual Championship finale in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. “You have to pick what side do you think is going to be successful.

“I firmly believe that I’m on the winning side of how things are going to evolve and shape in the coming years for professional golf.

“Until both sides sit down and have a conversation and work something out, both sides are going to continue to change and evolve,” added Mickelson at the $25 million event in the Middle East.

“And I see LIV Golf trending upwards, I see the PGA Tour trending downwards and I love the side that I’m on. I love the way they involve us and listen to us in decisions.”

Jeddah is the final individual event ahead of the Team Championship in Miami at the end of the month.
