Sergio Garcia has revealed he thinks it is doubtful he will play on the DP World Tour again after the fallout over his recent BMW PGA Championship withdrawal.

Garcia was already something of a controversial entrant in the tournament at Wentworth — along with the other LIV Golfers who competed. But unlike the others, Garcia was a no-show when the second round, delayed a day due to the death of Queen Elizabeth II, was played at Wentworth Club outside of London last month. Instead, he was snapped attending a college American football game in Texas.

Garcia was fined for failing to provide a medical explanation for his BMW PGA withdrawal as required by the tour’s General Regulations Handbook, further distancing Garcia from the former European Tour where he made his name, won 16 of his 36 titles, and gained thousands of fans over the past two decades.

After his six-under 63 took him into tied-third at the LIV Golf Invitational Jeddah on Saturday, Garcia was asked if he plans to play on DP World Tour again.

“I don’t know,” he replied. “As of now, it doesn’t look like it. But we’ll see. At the end of the day I want to play where people want me, where people are excited to have me, and where I feel like I’m welcome and loved. Right now that’s here, that’s at LIV, and I’m very excited about that.”

Garcia had a brace on his injured left knee at Royal Greens, but is optimistic it won’t be a major issue with his meniscus.

“It might need a little clean-up or something. I’ll know more next week when I have a proper MRI and take a look at it,” Garcia said. “It sucks because I’ve been very fortunate with injuries throughout my career, I’ve been very healthy, and to play through one it’s not the most enjoyable thing.”
