Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen is in the form of his life after collecting his second victory in just three weeks in the UAE Challenge on the Challenge Tour.

Coming off a seventh-placed finish at Al Ain last week in the Abu Dhabi Challenge, the 24-year-old overcame a congested leaderboard and a three-shot deficit at the start of Sunday.

The Dane shot a final-round 67, on the Gary Player-designed Saadiyat Beach Golf Club, to set the clubhouse score at 14-under-par, and ultimately win his second trophy of the season.

It was looking like a comfortable victory for the overnight leader Wilco Nienaber, but the South African dropped three shots over his final four holes, to gift the title to Neergaard-Petersen who cemented himself further at the top of the Road to Mallorca Rankings.

“I feel incredible,” he said. “I knew I had a chance going into today, but being able to put together a great round and get it done in the end feels amazing.

“I got off to a really good start in the first round, played pretty good in the second round, but I’m most proud of my third round. It was probably the best round of two under par I’ve ever played.

“This is all still new to me. Right now I just want to enjoy this win.”

Finishing in solo third was four-time DP World Tour, and two-time Challenge Tour winner Englishman David Horsey who jumps up a further nine spots in the order of merit, as he goes in search of a return to the main stage come season end in November.

Dubai resident Oscar Craig, was the only amateur who made the cut, and with stepdad Tommy Fleetwood on the bag for his Challenge Tour debut, finished in a tie for 60th.

The team at the Tommy Fleetwood Academy and Jumeirah Golf Estates, where he is attached will be immensely proud of him.

In what has been an exceptional two weeks of golf for the Challenge Tour in the UAE, we wave them off and look forward to their return next year.

The Road to Mallorca takes a short break before heading to Spain for the Challenge De España at Real Club Sevilla Golf from May 9-12.
