Angel Hidalgo delighted the home crowds at the Andalucía Masters with a second-round 63 that gave him a share of the halfway lead in the DP World Tour event.

The 24-year-old Spaniard was hot with the putter at Real Club Valderrama, as he made eight birdies on a blemish-free card, to sit on nine-under alongside Dubai-based Spaniard Adrian Otaegui and Australia’s Min Woo Lee.

Otaegui added a five-under 66 to his opening 67 to make it a three-way tie at the top after Lee had gone 66-67.

The leading trio were three shots clear of Swede Joakim Lagergren, with Scot Robert MacIntyre and Spain’s Sebastian Garcia Rodriguez another shot back on five-under.

“I started the day hitting it so badly on the range, but I just tried to put the ball in the fairway on the first few holes and started to take some confidence,” said Hidalgo. “I made every putt today and that was the key.

“The support was amazing. It’s the first time I’ve played with so many people following me. I was a bit nervous at times, but it was great feeling. A 63 is a dream score and I’m so happy.”
