With his out-of-nowhere runner-up finish at the WM Phoenix Open, Charley Hoffman locked up a spot in this week’s Genesis Invitational, which is hosted by Tiger Woods. It wound up being quite a mic-drop moment for Hoffman, who admitted he asked Woods for a sponsor’s invitation to the signature event and was denied.

Hoffman drove to Riviera from his home in San Diego earlier this week, and you’ll never believe who he ran into in the locker room first – it was Woods.

A perfect opportunity for Hoffman, then, to say something along the lines of “How you like me now?” Woods quickly beat him to the punch with a well-timed compliment/dig.

“Good job, old man,” Woods said.

Zing!

Woods and Hoffman are right around the same age (Woods turned 48 on December 30, Hoffman 47 on December 27), so this was just (old) guys being (old) dudes. These two have been competing against each other for quite some time now. Woods will be competing in his 374th PGA Tour event this week while Hoffman is nearing his 500th start (496th this week, to be exact). Not bad for a couple of old men.
