Earlier this summer Gullane Golf Club in East Lothian was hit with gale force winds caused by Storm Hector, causing a hospitality tent set up for the Scottish Open to be swept away by high winds. A similar act of destruction hit Scotland this week, this time at the Home of Golf.
For a few brief moments on Saturday morning, the truly impossible seemed possible. It wasn’t just that Tom Watson was leading the Senior British Open a little more than five weeks prior to his 69th birthday. It was the circumstances under which he had the lead.
He was a little less than convincing towards the end of his final round, but Miguel Angel Jimenez did just enough over the closing holes to hold off defending champion Bernhard Langer and claim the Senior British Open Championship at St. Andrews.
