Former Asian Tour player Sujjan Singh has started the new UAE PGA campaign pretty much where he left off last season by claiming an astonishing fifth title in just his eighth start on the regional circuit.

The 38-year-old Indian shared the spoils in the 2019-2020 season opener at Emirates Golf Club on Monday, a four-under 68 on the Faldo course matched by Emirates G.C. teaching professional Dong Lee. Lee technically defended his title at his home course but given his impressive introduction to the UAE PGA Tour last season, the headlines were inevitably grabbed by Singh.

The Claude Harmon ③ Performance Golf Academy teaching professional, who finished 32nd in the order of merit in his debut Asian Tour campaign in 2011 and has two Professional Golf Tour of India titles to his name, won at The Els Club, Dubai Hills, Abu Dhabi, and Saadiyat Beach last season.

He finished fifth in the UAE PGA Tour order of merit despite only playing seven events – his worst finish all season was a 4th placing –  so is understandably the raging hot favourite to win the points race this season.

For the record, UAE PGA CEO Luke Plumb (JA Resorts & Hotels) finished third on the Faldo with a one-under 71.

Meanwhile, the new 2019-2020 schedule has been unveiled. It features 21 tournaments including the UAE PGA Championship at Jumeirah Golf Estates and Dubai Creek on March 30-31 respectively and the UAE PGA Pairs Championship on the Earth course at JGE on April 7.

The Dubai Golf Trophy, this year on Earth at JGE and Dubai Creek, is also in the diary for April 18-19.  The UAE PGA Pros will be looking to avoid a fifth straight loss in the Ryder Cup-style matches against the Emirates Golf Federation’s leading amateurs.
