Barry Lane, who played for Team Europe in the 1993 Ryder Cup, has died aged 62.

The Englishman, who competed more than 690 times on the old European Tour, passed away after a short illness.

He won five times on tour, including the Scottish Open and European Open, plus featuring on Bernard Gallacher’s European side that lost to the United States at the Belfry.

Keith Pelley, the European Tour Group Chief Executive, said: “We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Barry Lane. The thoughts of everyone at the European Tour group are with his wife Camilla, the Lane family and his many friends throughout the golfing world.”
