The LPGA is back in the U.S. after a two-month hiatus, the tour playing three events in Asia during that stretch. And it was one of the tour’s biggest American stars who walked away with the victory at the Fir Hills Seri Pak Championship at Palos Verdes Golf Club in California, the first of three events out west.

Nelly Korda seemingly had the victory in hand with four holes remaining but made three bogeys in that stretch to shoot 69 and finish at nine-under-par total with other players still having holes remaining. Ryan O’Toole birdied the 16th and 17th holes, sending the event to a playoff.

That playoff, however, didn’t last long. Korda made birdie from inside 20 feet to seal the victory and take home $300,000 from the $2 million overall purse. She will also ascend to World No. 1 again on Monday when the Rolex Rankings are released. O’Toole shot a final-round 66 and earned $186,577. Her lone LPGA victory came three years ago at the Women’s Scottish Open.

Gabriela Ruffels and Alison Lee tied for third place a shot behind Korda and O’Toole.

It was the third consecutive year the LPGA has stopped at this golf course, although the name of the championship changed for 2024. This year the event is named after the investment firm sponsor and Pak, an inductee into the 2007 World Golf and LPGA Halls of Fame after winning 25 times on tour before retiring back in 2016. She won five majors, including the historic 1998 U.S. Women’s Open when she was only 20.
