Charlie Woods continues his strong play this summer, following an AJGA victory three weeks ago at Streamsong in Florida with another good performance in a qualifier for the U.S. Junior Amateur.
The 16-year-old son of Tiger Woods shot one-under 71 Thursday at Eagle Trace Golf Club in Coral Springs, Florida, to get into a three-for-one playoff, which he won. Woods collected the fifth and final spot behind Arth Sinha, Lucas Gimenez, Sohan Patel and Wylie Inman. He beat Oscar Crowe and Matthew Marigliano in the playoff. Woods qualified for last year’s championship at Oakland Hills in Michigan but shot 82-80 to miss the cut for match play.
This year’s championship is July 21-26 at Trinity Forest Golf Club in Dallas.

Woods started the Thursday on the 10th hole at Eagle Trace and birdied three of his first six holes then made bogey on the 18th hole, his ninth of the day. The last three holes, Woods went bogey, birdie, bogey to shoot 71, while he had to sit and wait for everyone else to finish.
Ultimately, the score was good enough for Woods to get into the playoff, where he advanced.
Three weeks ago Woods collected the biggest win of his young golf career, winning the AJGA’s Team TaylorMade Invitational at Streamsong’s Black course in Bowling Green, Fla. He shot 70-65-66 for a 15-under-par winning total. Following that Woods made the cut at the Florida Amateur played in South Florida.
