In an interview with GolfMagic, Sergio Garcia has confirmed that the Fireballs GC would not be renewing the contract of fellow Spaniard Eugenio Chacarra for the 2025 LIV Golf League season.
“There is going to be one new player,” said Garcia.
“Unfortunately, Eugenio Chacarra finished outside the top 24 and his contract is up.
“We are very thankful for everything he’s done this last two and half, three years.”
Very formal from Garcia!
The Fireballs GC is currently made up of skipper Garcia, Mexico’s Abraham Ancer and Spain’s David Puig (who also finished in the Open Zone but his contract was renewed) what a kick in the teeth for Chacarra!
So who will fill the spot? With the replacement signing being announced in the upcoming months by the Fireballs, it is still unclear who the replacement will be, but Garcia did confirm that the person lined up is “a little bit of a different profile kind of player”.
“We are working on it and hopefully we’ll have something before the year ends,” continued Garcia.
“It’s exciting to look at different options and looking at someone who could make the team better in every aspect.
“I think that’s the end game, to make the team better as LIV Golf moves forwards.
“Sometimes you have to make little changes here and there I guess.”
You would think they would want to stick with the Hispanic theme. If that was the case, the only “Open Zone” player with LIV is Chile’s Mito Pereira, but he still appears on Torque GC’s social media posts.
Reserve player from Mexico Luis Carrera is another option, despite not having played a single LIV event.
Or potentially someone could be brought in from outside of LIV Golf. Does anyone from the below list tickle your fancy from either the DP World Tour or PGA Tour?
Adri Arnaus – Spain (currently in place to lose DP World Tour card)
Rafa Cabrera Bello – Spain
Jorge Campillo – Spain
Rafael Campos – Puerto Rico
Alejandro Del Rey – Spain
Nico Echavarria – Colombia
Manuel Elvira – Spain
Nacho Elvira – Spain
Sebastian Garcia – Spain (currently in place to lose DP World Tour card)
Alfredo Garcia-Heredia – Spain
Fabian Gomez – Argentina
Emiliano Grillo – Argentina
Angel Hidalgo – Spain
Pablo Larrazabal – Spain
Adrian Otaegui – Spain
Raul Pereda – Mexico
Santiago Tarrio – Spain
Alejandro Tosti – Argentina
Jhonattan Vegas – Venezuela
Camilo Villegas – Colombia
For Eugenio in the meantime, it’s also unknown whether he is looking to join a new team on LIV or leave the league completely. He is signed up to play on the Asian Tour’s International Series Thailand in a couple of weeks time.
