The 2025 U.S. Open is closing in fast, and by the looks of things at Oakmont, it’s going to be brutal.
Last month, the USGA hosted U.S. Open Media Day at the site of 2025’s third major, giving journalists and content creators a first look at the Oakmont setup. Inevitably, this resulted in the annual Rough Reveal™ courtesy of Barstool Sports personality Barstool Beef, who sent shivers down the spine of tour pros across the world with this video. Watch it and weep.
US OPEN media day yesterday. @USGA thank you.
Let’s just say the rough at Oakmont CC is a bit like me…. THICK!

If you think that looks bad, just wait. In the weeks since, the devil’s lettuce has become, well, even more devilish.

I have no idea how the players are even going to play their ball from this rough at Oakmont. #USOpen pic.twitter.com/f6doWH7zsS

This year’s U.S. Open will be the record 10th hosted at Oakmont Country Club, and it looks like organisers want the course to put up a hell of a fight to mark the occasion. A lot could change in the week ahead, as Scottie Scheffler proved at Muirfield Village last weekend, the fellas have been going low all season long. If the long stuff plays as nasty as it looks, though, expect sweet, glorious carnage come next week.
