One of the great stories of last season was the revival of Lucas Glover, which was in large part due to the fact he finally got his putter in check. Specifically, the L.A.B. Golf putter, which is now sweeping the golf world at the tour level, with guys like Will Zalatoris turning to it in an attempt to find similar results.

Unfortunately, as magical as Glover’s late-season run was, the L.A.B. putter is not a magic wand that cures all evil. Glover lost 0.747 strokes on the greens on Thursday at the Sony Open in Hawaii, where he opened with a one-over 71. The lowlight came at the par-3 17th, where the six-time tour winner’s tee shot found the rough just off the right edge of the green and left him with just 20 feet to the hole. His chip came to rest four feet from the cup, by no means a gimme but still a putt a tour pro should be able to clean up for his par.

Glover did not, in fact, clean it up for his par, rolling it 16 inches past the cup for a tap-in bogey. Or so we thought…

*Extreme Billy Madison voice when he sees that Ernie wet his pants* GOOOOOOO!

Eventually, this video will likely get scrubbed from the internet. In the event that happens, here’s the screenshot of Glover at address:

Yup. That one didn’t fall. Brutal. And a painful reminder to all of you who scoop up the three-footers and tell your buddies you shot a 76 – even a guy with a U.S. Open trophy on his mantle can brick a 16-incher.
