One week after the social media firestorm created by the $750 price tag to attend one competition day at the Ryder Cup, the TGL unveiled its schedule for its inaugural season. Another thing buried at the bottom of the schedule announcement was the ticket price to see one of the matches for this new indoor simulator league – $160.
That’s right, you will have to fork over nearly $200 to go watch guys hit into a screen. Of course, some of those “guys” are Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Xander Schauffele and Justin Thomas, but still. You can go to a number of different golf events on the PGA Tour schedule, as well as MLB, NFL and college football games across the country, all of which are played outdoors and in the elements, for far less.
In fairness to TGL, though, it will surely be an intimate setting in the 1,500-seat SoFi Center, which is being built specifically for this league. Woods is one of the hardest guys to see up close on the PGA Tour, so getting to see him up close and personal swinging the club, albeit into a huge screen, could be worth the $160 to some.
The $750 ticket to see one competition day at next year’s Ryder Cup (food and non-alcoholic drinks included) or the $160 to watch some of the world’s best play sim-golf?
Mind you, many people think they are both ridiculous prices and will be watching both at home from the couch, which has become the best place to watch just about every sport these days.
