You know what they say: You always remember your first. Paycheck, that is. Well, if you’re a pro golfer.

Years ago I asked a bunch of PGA Tour pros to recount their first time cashing in on golf, and they delivered. And now you can add Tyrrell Hatton to the list.

Long before he was making a name for himself playing on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour—and roasting famous golf courses—and even longer before he padded his bank account even more by joining Jon Rahm’s LIV Golf team, Hatton was playing on something called the Jumenga Pro Golf Tour. And in 2011, he won for the first time—and collected a check for a whopping £5,000.

Although for someone who hadn’t turned 20 yet, that really was a whopping amount. And Hatton did what a lot of teenagers would do: strengthen his video game setup. Have a listen to this clip from LIV’s Fairway To Heaven podcast:

“Oh my god, I thought I had so much money,” Hatton says as he lights up in the clip. “I went and bought a 50-inch TV for 500 quid for my X-Box, and I was so happy.”

Nowadays, Hatton, 32, probably makes that much money for every hole he plays. And he’s probably upgraded his TV a few more times. But it’s always fun to take a trip down memory lane.
