Look out Sam Snead. Here comes Tiger Woods.

On a marathon Sunday at the Zozo Championship, Tiger Woods played 29 holes in six under par, extending his lead to three shots over Hideki Matsuyama and looking poised to claim his 82nd career PGA Tour victory and match the all-time record held by Snead.

Woods will try to close his march for history on Monday morning in Japan, as the rain-plagued event reaches its potentially historic conclusion.

“It was good. I felt I played alright,” Woods said. “I made a few mistakes here and there. I was pretty clean most of the day. Took my birdies when I had my opportunities.”

“As the holes have gone by, I’ve gotten more comfortable.”

Woods began the third round early on Sunday morning with a two-stroke lead and pushed it to three when he shot a four-under 66. Less than an hour later, he was back on the course to start his final round. Through 11 holes he’d make three birdies and a bogey to get to 18 under par when darkness finally halted play.

Woods and the remainder of the field return to Narashino Country Club at 7:30 a.m. local time Monday morning (6:30 p.m. EDT on Sunday) to finish play.
