The most emotional moment from the 2024 Open Championship came when Xander Schauffele shared an embrace with his dad at Royal Troon after locking up his second major of the year. Turns out, that’s not the only thing Stefan would be hugging tight that day.
In multiple interviews, Xander said he would let his dad decide what they’d be drinking from the historic trophy and that Stefan was hogging the historic trophy. Well, he wasn’t kidding.
The Open released a neat video of the two being driven around—sponsored, of course—with the claret jug. And when the topic of where Schauffele would be keeping it came up, it led to this funny exchange.
“Oh, I don’t hold any of my trophies,” Xander responds. “My parents will take it.”
“The trophies are in a very safe place,” Stefan interjects with a big grin. “And Xander has none of them.”
“This is all true,” Xander says with a chuckle. Poor Xander. Watch for yourself at the :45 mark:

Of course, it recalls the photo a shirtless Stefan shared a few years back of him wearing his son’s gold medal with the caption: “I might never give this one back to you @XanderSchauffele.”
Xander Schauffele's dad is really, really enjoying the Olympic gold medal, as evident by this amazing (and slightly terrifying) photo 😳: https://t.co/p4irVas8lB pic.twitter.com/XOpkI8SfYE

Sounds like Stefan really kept his word on that.
