The ceremony at Liverpool Cathedral later this month, a stone’s throw from where he grew up in Southport, marks the 50th anniversary of the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences.

The 34-year-old launched his Tommy Fleetwood Academy in Southport in 2019 with the aim of making the game more accessible for juniors. Its success led the DP World Ambassador to open a second location in Dubai at Jumeirah Golf Estates in 2022.

The 2011 HotelPlanner Tour graduate will be joined by his wife, Clare, and their family at this momentous occasion for the seven-time DP World Tour winner and three-time Ryder Cup player.

According to LJMU, “Tommy will join a special group of more than 300 honorary fellows from King Charles III and His Holiness The Dalai Lama to noteworthy sportsmen and women such as Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson. The fellows become part of the extended university community to represent its activities and advocate on its behalf.”

Fleetwood, the World Number 10, commented ahead of his honorary fellowship: “I’m so honoured to receive this recognition from Liverpool John Moores University and specifically the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences.

“As a professional sportsman, I am very aware of the benefits of research and insights, from biomechanics to sports psychology, that help elite athletes to continuously improve. I hope I can contribute in some way to LJMU’s continued leadership in sport and exercise science.”

Fleetwood, who became a DP World Global Ambassador in June, will join four-time Major Champion Rory McIlroy at the renowned Earth Course at Jumeirah Golf Estates for the season-ending Rolex Series event.

After relocating to Dubai, specifically Jumeirah Golf Estates two years ago, the World Number 11 has enjoyed significant success in the UAE with three of his seven DP World Tour titles coming in the region. He claimed back-to-back wins at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship in 2017 and 2018, won the season-long Race to Dubai in 2017, and added another triumph this year at the inaugural Dubai Invitational.

Recently, Fleetwood earned the Silver Medal for Great Britain at the Paris Olympics, standing on the podium alongside World Number One Scottie Scheffler and Major winner Hideki Matsuyama at Le Golf National – the venue of his Ryder Cup debut in 2018.

He will spend two weeks competing in the United Arab Emirates following confirmation he will tee it up at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship – the first event of the DP World Tour Play-offs, a new two event series also incorporating the season-ending DP World Tour Championship.

The top 70 available players at the conclusion of the “Back 9” events will gather at Yas Links in Abu Dhabi before the top 50 available players move on to Dubai, as the new-look season comes to a dramatic close.

“It’s always a privilege to be part of the DP World Tour Championship, especially on a course as iconic as the Earth Course,” said Fleetwood. “The Race to Dubai has played a huge role in my career, and I’m excited to be back competing in the DP World Tour Play-offs.

“The UAE has been like a second home to me, and I’ve been fortunate to experience some great moments here – winning in Abu Dhabi twice and lifting the Race to Dubai trophy in 2017 were incredible milestones. It’s a place that always inspires me to play my best golf.”

Fleetwood and DP World officially opened The DP World Golf Performance Centre at Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai in 2022, the region’s first-ever Tommy Fleetwood Academy, and he remains committed to growing grassroots golf in the region and globally.

“Being named a DP World Global Ambassador is a real honour,” he said. “I’m proud to represent such an important partner of the Tour I grew up watching and to help grow the game globally with my Academy. The partnership feels like a perfect fit for me, especially with all the success I’ve had in Dubai and the UAE.”

Taking part in the Future Champions Golf (FCG) Tour in California, first up for Pranit is the FCG International between the 5^th – 6^th July, followed by the IMG Academy Junior World Championship on the 7^th – 11^th July, before capping off his three-event swing at the FCG Callaway World Championship between the 15^th – 17^th July.

The FCG Tour alumni have had the likes of Collin Morikawa, Xander Schauffele, Patrick Cantlay, Alison Lee and Patty Tavatanakit to name just a few who have competed in the past, prior to their fledging careers on the professional circuits.

Over 8,000 miles away back in Dubai, Pranit will be watched over closely by his coach Michael Sweenie from the Tommy Fleetwood Academy (TFA) at Jumeirah Golf Estates (JGE), as the pair have been working relentlessly over the past months at his “second home”.

“I’m on the golf course every day and preparation so far has been good,” said Pranit. “I have a lot of improvements and a lot to still work on, but I’m trying to find a balance between school and golf as I need to make sure I’m giving time to both.”

“This has been an amazing season for me, with more feathers to my hat encouraging me to do better.”

“I was the U.S. Kids Local Tour Boys 9 Champion, I won the Future Falcon by Emirates Golf Federation in Al Ain, I got the Runner-Up spot at the U.S. Kids UAE International Championship, took fourth place in the Emirates Golf Federation Net Order of Merit, I won a few prizes at the TFA Junior Medal Series in the Nearest the Pin and Beat the Pro, and I secured fourth place at Al Ain in the inaugural JAGA Tournament.”

Competing in America is a familiar hunting ground for Pranit, as 12 months ago he was in the U.S. Kids State Invitational at Upland Hills in California, Circling Raven in Idaho and Chambers Bay in Seattle home to the 2015 U.S. Open.

“I’m very excited to play the World Championship next week. Hopefully, I will play well, have fun and am looking forward to making new friends.”

It’s no rest for the wicked, as once Pranit returns to Dubai despite the heat, the remainder of his summer holidays will be spent on the golf courses, practising and preparing for the following season.

“The summer heat has started bothering me, but I make sure to practice. Especially since there won’t be any tournaments during the summer here in the UAE, that will give me time to work on my game.”
