BREAKING: The teams have been announced for the 26th edition of the Viya Golf Trophy.

The Viya Golf Trophy will once again see the UAE’s top male and female Professionals take on the best male and female Amateurs in a Ryder Cup-style showdown over two competitive days across the 17th and 18th May 2026.

To earn a spot, the top 12 Professionals have had to qualify through the Emirates PGA’s Viya Golf Trophy Order of Merit. The Amateurs followed a similar process, with the top 12 coming from the EGF’s Gross Order of Merit.

The remaining four spots on each team are Captain’s Picks—selected at the discretion of Professional Captain Sujjan Singh and Amateur Captain Jay Mullane.

The event also features a Ladies Challenge Match, with the top two Professional Ladies facing off against the top two Amateur Ladies, based on their respective Order of Merit standings.

Sujan Singh, Professional Captain, commented ahead of one of the UAE’s longest-standing tournaments, “The EPGA season has seen unprecedented participation from professionals competing to qualify for the team, with the standard of golf among the strongest we’ve seen in recent years.

“We have an excellent balance of rookies and players who have represented the team for many years, with our strength built on the camaraderie and experience we share. We’re all looking forward Sunday morning!”

Jay Mullane, Amateur Captain, also commented, “As for this year’s Viya Golf Trophy, I’ve been excited since the last event finished tied. I think this year is set to be an exciting one for everyone involved.

“Our team is one of the strongest we’ve ever had, and every player selected has worked hard to earn their place. Everyone is ready and raring to go, and I’m really looking forward to what promises to be another fantastic edition of the Viya Golf Trophy.”

Originally established by Dubai Golf, the event rotates across five world-class courses: Emirates Golf Club’s Faldo and Majlis courses, Jumeirah Golf Estates’ Earth and Fire courses, and the Championship Course at Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club.

This year see’s day one on the Earth Course at Jumeirah Golf Estates, with the final day being held at Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club.

Across Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and Europe, championship golf courses have steadily embraced a model that extends beyond the traditional 18 holes and clubhouse formula.

On-course villa accommodations – once a novelty – have become an expected amenity at destination courses, catering to golfers who want immersion rather than proximity.

The Middle East has been watching. And now, with grassroots participation across the region up 223% since 2012 according to the R&A’s Global Participation Report, and more international visitors choosing the UAE as a golf destination, operators are responding.

Dubai Creek Resort’s move to introduce Solenna Villas represents the first time a UAE facility has fully committed to the integrated accommodation model. The 18-villa collection, curated by Park Hyatt Dubai, sits directly within the fairways of the 32-year-old championship course.

Each residence spans 200 to 225 square metres, featuring private plunge pools, dedicated 24-hour butler service, and immediate access to the course, driving range, and practice facilities. A private central putting green serves as the heart of the enclave, reinforcing the integration between accommodation and play.

Chris May, CEO of Dubai Golf, frames the March 2026 opening less as innovation and more as evolution.

“Solenna Villas have been some time coming,” says May. “It’s part of the resort upgrade and our consistent progress and evolution in getting better and improving everything that we have to offer.

“We felt there was a gap in the market in Dubai as there wasn’t really any accommodation that was really intimate and on the golf course. It’s the perfect place to stay for a golfer, and the accommodation quality matches what our customers are expecting. We expect them to be very busy, very popular and something unique in the market.”

The timing reflects confidence backed by data. Dubai welcomed 15.7 million international visitors in the first nine months of 2025 – a 5% year-over-year increase, according to Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism figures. Sporting and lifestyle tourism has driven significant portions of that growth, while facilities like Topgolf, located at Emirates Golf Club, have demonstrated sustained appeal, attracting 650,000 guests last year and averaging more than 60,000 balls hit daily.

Dubai’s shortlisting among the world’s best golf destinations at the 2025 World Golf Awards, alongside the country hosting multiple DP World Tour events including the Dubai Invitational (15-18 January) at Dubai Creek Resort, suggests the sector has clear momentum behind it.

Adapting to demand

That momentum has brought welcome challenges. Tee times across Dubai’s courses reflect the surge in popularity, with advance booking becoming increasingly important – a reality May acknowledged during an October appearance on Dubai Eye radio. The emirate’s population has grown approximately 5-6% annually in the post-COVID period, and golf participation has grown faster still.

“We’ve never seen play levels like this,” May says. “Members are playing more golf. The general public are wanting to play more golf. In peak season, you really need to book ahead of time, a little bit more, perhaps, than you have done in recent years.

“People are understanding that. The golf courses are pretty busy, so you do need to book ahead in order to make sure that you definitely get the number of rounds that you want to play if you’re coming to visit from overseas.”

For international visitors or residents planning extended golf-focused stays, coordinating accommodation and course access separately can add complexity to the experience. Book a hotel, secure tee times independently, arrange transport, repeat across multiple days.

Integrated on-course accommodation addresses this naturally. Guests staying at Solenna Villas receive streamlined tee time access as part of their villa booking, simplifying the planning process. The configuration also includes a private central putting green exclusively for villa residents – a practice facility available without advance booking, steps from the accommodation.

Evolution

Dubai Creek Resort carries weight in the regional and international landscape – it’s the only golf club featured on any nation’s banknote globally. The sail-shaped clubhouse remains instantly recognisable. The course, now 32 years old, has hosted elite competition and welcomed many of golf’s biggest names over the years, including Rory McIlroy, Seve Ballesteros, and Colin Montgomerie to name a few.

“We’re very lucky to have one of the most recognisable and iconic clubhouses globally,” says May. “The golf course is absolutely unique. It’s still the most popular golf course for international tourists in the country, largely because of its unique ambience. It’s right on the water of the Creek. You’ve got the amazing clubhouse, you’ve got an amazing team that give you a great welcome – it’s always been special.”

That heritage comes with expectations. Hosting the Dubai Desert Classic in its early years helped put Dubai Creek on the international map. The return of DP World Tour competition through the Dubai Invitational – which two years ago featured McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood in a memorable final-group showdown – has repositioned the venue within the professional circuit.

But relevance requires continuous adaptation. Beyond tournament hosting, Dubai Creek has invested in new practice facilities and is now introducing Solenna Villas as the accommodation piece of that evolution – bringing integrated on-course living to the region for the first time.

“I think this will give Dubai something that will match and perhaps better most of those that are already existing in the world,” May suggests, citing properties in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and Europe that have successfully implemented similar models.

For a market that has expanded significantly over the past decade – evidenced by the 223% surge in regional participation – the introduction of integrated on-course accommodation marks another step in its evolution.

As construction nears completion ahead of the Q1 2026 opening, Dubai Creek Resort positions itself not as pioneer, but as regional adapter of a proven international formula. In a sector built on incremental advantages and experiential differentiation, that may be exactly the right approach.

Topgolf Dubai has partnered with Special Olympics UAE to launch a transformative and empowering golf training programme for People of Determination.

By increasing accessibility, removing barriers and supporting a diverse community of players, Topgolf Dubai proudly joins the global movement to expand participation for Special Olympics athletes and create meaningful opportunities in sport.

Providing state-of-the-art golf training facilities and fostering a welcoming, inclusive environment, Topgolf supports athletes in a no-pressure environment throughout their experience.

Beginning 14 May 2025, an eight-week Practice Season programme has been designed to sharpen swings in anticipation of an end-of-season competition. Qualifying players will then join participants from around the world for an International invitational tournament to be held on 26 July 2025, followed by a celebration of the stories and successes from the year.

Rooted in a mission of inclusivity, Topgolf Dubai welcomes guests of all ages and abilities, from families with newborns to guests in their 90s and including People of Determination.

“Topgolf Dubai was built with one clear mission: to welcome everyone,” said Mike Walton, General Manager of Topgolf Dubai. “Inclusivity isn’t just a concept here; it’s a commitment embedded into every aspect of the venue.”

“Since opening in 2021, we’ve witnessed the incredible power of sport to connect, uplift, and inspire. We believe these opportunities should never be limited by ability or access. That’s why we’re especially proud to work alongside Special Olympics to welcome new athletes to our venue and into the world of golf.”

His Excellency Talal Al Hashemi, National Director, Special Olympics UAE added, “This partnership is an important step for extending our commitment to providing year-round training and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

“Through technology, accessibility and community, Topgolf Dubai is helping create an essential new avenue to participation in competitive sport and the multiple benefits that will deliver.”

On a final day that brought plenty of drama, the Amateurs fought back against the Professionals to retain the Dubai Golf Trophy once again, following a 16-16 tie at the Majlis Course at Emirates Golf Club, Dubai.

In one of the longest-standing golf tournaments in the United Arab Emirates, the Amateurs entered this year’s event having dominated in recent years, having won nine of the last ten editions against the Professionals.

The Professionals began Monday’s final day with a slender one-point lead, following Sunday’s Fourballs and Foursomes results, with the singles matches commencing with the Amateurs on 7.5 points and the Professionals on 8.5.

The day was closely contested, with points shared evenly between the teams as the matches progressed. However, the Amateurs rallied late on, securing vital points towards the end of play — notably Barry Pavic defeating Professional Captain Graham Forbes 2&1, UAE National Ahmad Skaik edging Louis Gaughan 1UP, and Aayan Dadabhoy winning 3&2 against Matt Rice.

Dubai Creek Golf Resort’s Matt Brookes kept the Professionals in contention with a crucial 1UP win against Jumeirah Golf Estates member Tom Stephenson.

But the decisive point came from the Tommy Fleetwood Academy’s Oscar Craig, whose 1UP victory over Stuart Smith sealed the win — sparking jubilant celebrations among the Amateurs. The first to congratulate him was his brother, Mo.

You can see how much it means to Oscar and his fellow Amateurs below.

BREAKING: The teams have been announced for the 26th edition of the Dubai Golf Trophy.

The Dubai Golf Trophy will once again see the UAE’s top male and female Professionals take on the best male and female Amateurs in a Ryder Cup-style showdown over two competitive days across the 11th and 12th May 2025.

To earn a spot, the top 12 Professionals have had to qualify through the Emirates PGA’s Dubai Golf Trophy Order of Merit, based on their best six finishes across the season. The Amateurs followed a similar process, with the top 12 coming from the EGF’s Gross Order of Merit.

The remaining four spots on each team are Captain’s Picks—selected at the discretion of Professional Captain Graham Forbes and Amateur Captain Dan Byrne. However, there’s a catch: Pros must have played at least five Emirates PGA events, while Amateurs need a minimum of five UAE Open appearances.

The event also features a Ladies Challenge Match, with the top two Professional Ladies facing off against the top two Amateur Ladies, based on their respective Order of Merit standings.

Despite the Professionals best efforts, the Amateurs have dominated in recent years, winning nine of the last ten editions. Last year, the Professionals came agonisingly close, but Emirates Golf Club’s Viktor Kofod-Olsen secured a crucial draw on the final hole against Matt Rice from Golf Kraft, resulting in a 16-16 tie and ensuring the Amateurs retained the trophy.

Representing the United Arab Emirates, General Abdullah Alhashmi, Vice President of the Emirates Golf Federation, attended the 89th Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club, where he met with Chairman Fred Ridley and senior leadership to discuss hosting the upcoming Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship (AAC) in Dubai, at Emirates Golf Club.

Alongside Emirates Golf Federation Board Member Mustafa Al Hashimi and Dubai Golf CEO Chris May, General Alhashmi witnessed history as Rory McIlroy claimed the coveted Green Jacket and completed his career Grand Slam by winning all four major golf tournaments.

“It was a weekend that I will remember for a very long time. The level of excellence, not only on the golf course but also throughout the grounds of Augusta National, has certainly left an impression on me to bring back to the UAE.

“I am glad that I had the opportunity to witness a tradition like no other. During my visit, I had the opportunity to meet with Chairman Ridley to discuss preparations for the upcoming Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship, as well as the impact that the UAE has had on amateur golf,” said Vice President General Alhashmi.

During his visit, General Alhashmi not only had a private meeting with the Augusta National Chairman, but also attended the Green Jacket Ceremony on the 18th green of Augusta National Golf Club.

In conjunction with the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC), Dubai Golf, Emirates Golf Club, and The Masters Tournament, the UAE will host the 16th AAC from 23–26 October 2025. The AAC was created to give the top 120 male amateurs from the APGC’s 42 member organisations in the Asia-Pacific region the opportunity to compete, with the winner receiving an invitation to the 2026 Masters Tournament.

In October 2024, in Japan—where the APGC and The Masters Tournament announced the hosting of the AAC at Emirates Golf Club—APGC Chairman Taimur Hassan Amin said, “We have a proud tradition of hosting the AAC at world-class venues, and we are continuing that by hosting the 2025 edition in the UAE at Emirates Golf Club, strengthening our relationship with the UAE and the Middle East region.”

It is an exciting time for UAE golf as the 2024/2025 season draws to a close, with the nation having just hosted back-to-back HotelPlanner Tour events and is looking forward to the EGF Order of Merit Championship next weekend.

The win came as a surprise twist, with several contenders stumbling down the stretch. Louis Gaughan dropped three shots on the final hole to finish one over. Damien Scott let five shots slip over the last two holes, while Charles Morra also faltered, dropping four shots to join the trio tied for fifth.

Last week, Jumeirah Golf Estates hosted one of their flagship Pro-Am events, the Jumeirah Golf Estates Pro-Am by Titan Wealth International.

A total of 30 professionals teamed up with 90 amateurs in a team stableford format (best two from four), playing the Fire course in the first round and the Earth course in the second.

After 36 holes, PGA professional Nakul Paliwal led his team – Gerhard Vorster, Jane Vorster, and Teresa Sheepwash – to victory by four shots. Their winning score comprised 92 Stableford points on the Fire course and 87 on the Earth course, securing a win with a total of 179 points.

In second place was PGA professional Brendan Els and his team – Benjamin Tomkins, Bradley Valentine, and Richard Bernans – who totalled 175 points over the two days. They posted an impressive 91 points on the Fire course but managed only 84 on the Earth course, where the windy conditions posed a challenge during the final round.

Third place went to PGA professional Tom Hanson and his team – Martin Issott, Oliver Turnbull, and Steve Drake – who amassed 174 Stableford points. Their scores of 83 on the Fire course and 91 on the Earth course highlighted an impressive second-round surge.

Daniel Dickinson (Chief Executive Officer, Titan Wealth International, Jamie Roach, Tanya Harrison (2025 Lady Captain), Rishad Moloobhoy (2025 Men’s Captain) Jumeirah Golf Estates Pro-Am By Titan Wealth International

In the professional stroke play event, PGA professional Jamie Roach claimed victory with a first-round score of two under par (70) on the Fire course, followed by a superb three under par (69) on the Earth course. His five under-par total secured the win by two strokes.

Finishing second at three under par was PGA professional Matt Rice, who shot an even-par 72 on the Fire course before making a bogey-free, three under par 69 on the Earth course, an impressive display of precision, particularly in the challenging conditions.

For the second time that evening, PGA professional Brendan Els took the stage, securing third place with rounds of two under par (Fire) and even par (Earth), finishing at two under par overall.

Fourth place was shared by PGA professionals Dylan Burke and Matt Brookes, both finishing at one over par. Brookes posted an outstanding three under par (69) in round one but followed it with a four-over par (76) on the Earth course, leaving him tied for fourth. Burke, meanwhile, was steadier, with rounds of level par and one over par.

Dan Dickinson, Chief Executive Officer of Titan Wealth International, addressed the audience during the prize presentation:

“We would like to thank all the members and guests for taking part over the last two days and for their continued support of the annual Jumeirah Golf Estates Pro-Am. It has been a great event, and we look forward to returning next year to continue growing this flagship event. We must also recognise the incredible work of the agronomy team here at Jumeirah Golf Estates – both the Fire and Earth courses were in superb condition and provided a great test of golf for professionals and amateurs alike.”
