Earlier in the week we noted that Scottie Scheffler was going to earn $18 million without hitting a shot at the Wyndham Championship. In fact, he hasn’t hit a competitive shot since his Open Championship victory a couple weeks ago at Royal Portrush.
But if anyone on the PGA Tour deserves yet another big payday, it’s Scheffler, who has won four times, including two major championships. He earned $10 million for topping the FedEx Cup list after the regular season was complete and another $8 million for topping the Comcast Business Top 10. It’s a double dip of sorts that ends up putting another $18 mil in the bank account of the World No. 1.
Rory McIlroy will not play in this week’s FedEx Cup Playoffs opener in Memphis, the FedEx St. Jude Championship. He’s the only player in the top 70 who won’t be at TPC Southwind next week. Still, he earned $10 million for finishing second behind Scheffler in the FedEx top 10.
Here is the complete top-10 list, ending with U.S. Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley at 10th. The Travelers Championship winner this year took home another $2.5 million. He missed the cut at the Wyndham Championship but will be in the news plenty these next three weeks as his Ryder Cup team starts to take shape. The top six in points after the BMW Championship on Aug. 17 will automatically qualify. Bradley will then make six picks.
