Sergio Garcia had planned to make a return to the DP World Tour at this week’s Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship at Royal Golf Club, but this has now been put on ice.

In a text exchange with Andy Roberts from Golf Magic, the 45-year-old said that his return to the DP World Tour now “looks like the BMW International Open in Munich, but that might change.”

The event falls in a “dead week” on LIV Golf’s 2025 schedule, with LIV Golf Dallas the week before the BMW International Open, and LIV Golf Andalucia the week after, which he will be defending.

Garcia also went on to say that he would have played in Dubai for the Rolex Series’ Hero Dubai Desert Classic, of which he is a previous winner in 2017, had he still not been serving his suspension.

Garcia’s suspension from the DP World Tour comes to an end in the first week of February 2025, as it is understood that he has paid his $1 million in fines in order to return to the DP World Tour. He wants to be eligible for a spot in the 2025 Ryder Cup Team Europe in September, which requires him to be a member of the DP World Tour.

The DP World Tour also confirmed to GolfMagic that Garcia’s previous suspension from 2023 (for breaches prior to him resigning his membership) is still in effect for this week’s DP World Tour event in Bahrain.

His fellow LIV Golfers Patrick Reed and David Puig are competing in the US $2.5 million event, the fourth of a five-week swing in the Middle East, with Reed being eligible as a Category 1 player (major winner from 2017–2025) and Puig as a Category 7 (Top 10 from the previous event in Ras Al Khaimah).

Sergio, Patrick, and David will then head across to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the opening event of the 2025 LIV Golf League in Riyadh next week, now being played under floodlights at Riyadh Golf Club, to cater for the U.S. market due to the league having signed a broadcast television deal with Fox Sports.
