Scottie Scheffler’s 2025 PGA Tour debut will have to wait at least another couple weeks.

The World No. 1 announced on Monday that he has withdrawn from the American Express next week. Scheffler had previously pulled out of the PGA Tour’s season opener at Kapalua due to a hand injury suffered on Christmas Day.

“After consulting with my medical team, I have made the decision to withdraw from next week’s American Express tournament to give my injury more time to heal,” Scheffler said in a statement posted on Instagram. “I am still hopeful to begin my 2025 Season at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.”

On Dec. 27, Scheffler’s manager, Blake Smith, issued a statement saying, “On Christmas Day while preparing dinner, Scottie sustained a puncture wound to the palm of his right hand from a broken glass.”

He added that, “Small glass fragments remained in the palm which required surgery,” and that Scheffler has been told he “should be back to 100% in three to four weeks.”

The AT&T Pebble Beach is Jan. 30-Feb. 2. Following the Sentry, it is the PGA Tour’s second signature event of the season.

Scheffler is coming off a historic season in which he won seven official PGA Tour events. He also won a Gold Medal at the Olympics and Tiger Woods’ event, the Hero World Challenge.

In December, Scheffler joined Woods by becoming the only other golfer to win the PGA Tour Player of the Year Award for a third consecutive year.
