Members of Wentworth Golf Club, home to the DP World Tour and European Tour HQ, have been signing a petition raising concerns about the state of the club, its courses and annual fees of £20,000.
According to a report from The Telegraph, members have suggested that US President Donald Trump, and his Trump Organisation, could be the man to save the Surrey-based golf club from its current Chinese owners, who have significantly increased annual fees from £7,000 to £20,000 since taking charge, among other issues in the club.

Reignwood, a China-based company owned by billionaire Chanchai Ruayrungruang—who made his fortune selling Red Bull in Chin, purchased the club from Richard Caring for £130 million in 2014.
Mr Ruayrungruang’s daughter, Woraphanit, was briefly made Wentworth’s chief executive and had been photographed with Donald Trump on a visit to Trump Tower in New York shortly after her father purchased the home to the DP World Tour’s BMW PGA Championship.

One concerned member commented: “Whatever you say about Donald Trump, he has improved Turnberry and Royal Aberdeen [the golf courses he owns in Scotland].
“It would be no bad thing if he stepped in and purchased Wentworth. Trump delivers on his promises, while Reignwood makes ambitious statements and fails to deliver.”
Another member added: “For the past 10 years, Reignwood has stated its mission for Wentworth is to become the world’s best golf and country club. But absent owners, unempowered management, staff churn, redundancies, a lack of engagement, and very poor communication have created a gulf between this mission and reality.
“This EGM is being called for Reignwood to explain its strategies for closing this gulf to the membership.”
Wentworth has declined to comment.
