Sometimes, the best instruction tips are the simplest. The more elaborate and complicated things get, the more difficult they can be to follow, and before you know it, your game will be even worse than it was before.
Now, we’re not too worried about Scottie Scheffler or Rory McIlroy’s golf games, but the latter gave a bit of friendly advice to the back-to-back Players Champion at TPC Sawgrass on Monday. Or was he was just trying to get into Scheffler’s head with a bit of gamesmanship? Either way, this won’t be the last time we see the two golf greats watching (and commenting on) each other’s swings this week.
After what looks to be one hell of a drive, McIlroy chimed in with a “Keep doing that, Scottie. You’ll be OK.” To be fair, he’s not wrong.
It’s not like the World No. 1 needs much help at the Players Championship, on the verge of a three-peat at the signature event, but a “good job” never hurts. Especially when it comes from a four-time major winner.
And, of course, Scheffler and McIlroy will be teeing off together on Thursday and Friday alongside Xander Schauffele. So the chirping and “advice” giving certainly won’t end at the range. If all goes well, it may even continue into Sunday evening.
