There’s some mystery in the air this week at the PGA Championship. The East Course at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, New York, hosts its seventh major overall and fourth PGA, but the first since 2013. In 2019 and 2020, the Donald Ross course underwent a near-total remodel from Andrew Green, who remodelled every green complex, fairway and landing zone to resurrect the original Ross character and spaciousness.

“All the remodelling work makes Oak Hill a more diverse and interesting course than it was, one that allows players to be more aggressive off the tee than in the past but requires careful calculation hitting shots into the greens,” writes Golf Digest architecture editor Derek Duncan.

The changes to the course include three new holes being built, with more than 200 additional yards of teeing space, bringing the championship distance to just shy of 7,400 yards. Most notably to fans who’ll remember the closing stretch of holes from last events, the pond on the par-3 15th hole has filled in.
