The 2018 Masters champion, Patrick Reed, carded an impressive three-under-par round of 68, bringing his total to eight under par and positioning himself well heading into the weekend.

Reed shared insights into his round, reflected on his performance throughout the year, and discussed his experiences playing in Asia.

Q. Patrick, you were three under par today how would you summarise your round?

It was a frustrating day at three under. It’s just kind of one of those days were energy levels a little low, couldn’t really get around on a lot of iron shots a lot of tee shots were blocked a little bit. Yeah, I hit a lot of balls inside 20ft just didn’t make anything and finally made that one on the last which will obviously make it feel a little better for the day.

Yeah, it was just kind of one of those days it could have been really low but at the same time because of some of the tee shots I hit it could have gone the other way. I feel like you are always going to have one of those rounds throughout a tournament, good thing is I got that out of the way today and was able to ride the ship today and get in the house but I feel like the game is where it needs to be, the game feels good, energy levels were a little low this morning but besides that I gave myself a lot of looks but my putter was a little Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde today.

Q. You said before that the heat reminds you of Texas a little bit, do you think you are used to this heat then?

You are never used to it! This is definitely a different heat, today it was sticky. I almost feel like the mornings here are worse temperature wise than the afternoon, even though in the afternoons it says it is a little hotter when there’s zero wind and it’s stagnant you are getting it from both sides, you are getting it from the top and you are getting it from the ground just the humidity getting you so yeah it’s hot today and you have to stay on top of the hydration and I feel like we have done a good job so far on that, you can’t drink enough, you can’t rest enough to get ready for the weekend.

Q. You have played with some incredible names in your career. This week you’ve been paired with Asian Tour legend Anirban Lahiri and former US Open champion Graeme McDowell, what’s that been like?

It’s awesome! I’ve played a lot with them recently especially with being at LIV. It’s always good to play with those boys, they will always fight no matter what and no matter how bad the days going and that’s what you want to do you want to play with guys who are always fighting. It was awesome to watch Lahiri birdie the last two to probably make it on the number and Gmac was just kind of cruising, so it’s always nice playing with those guys and hopefully we can continue to play some solid golf and keep getting in groups like that with those guys.

Q. How are you enjoying Indonesia?

Indonesia’s great! Been really busy so far this week so haven’t had the chance and time to really go and explore but the golf course is awesome, the traffic is something else, I’ve heard about it and experienced it now so but it’s one of these places that the people are amazing. Yesterday afternoon the people were out there the crowds were unbelievable, they are so excited to have us out here and cheering for us so can’t wait for the weekend to see more people come out.

Q. (Response from yesterday) Judging the characteristics of the golf course, what’s it going to require from you to be in contention on Sunday?

I think patience, especially off the tee. Most of the holes here, there’s a pretty aggressive line that you can shorten up some of these holes the problem is if you miss it by a yard left or right on that aggressive line it can lead to a big number.

Today I stayed really patient off the tee, I didn’t try to press or do anything out of the ordinary which was good and trust my iron game and trust that I’ll make good putts and trust that the putts are going to land, the more I do that the more opportunities I’ll get and if you have a lot of luck you’ll make some and I think that’s the biggest key is keep doing what I did today for the rest of the week and if I need to change up anything late Sunday then we’ll do that but right now just keep the pedal down.
