Not every drill you see on Twitter is worth copying. But sometimes, a good drill can be found. Like this one Padraig Harrington saw and shared, where a woman is hitting golf balls in a snowstorm. The video got a lot of attention, in part because of the gritty nature of her practice, but Harrington took a look at the drill she was doing and revealed the key benefits it has for golfers.

As you can see in the video, first you have to set up the drill by placing golf balls in a line, spaced out by about four inches. The woman in the video took it a step farther by setting up two separate rows of balls. Each row has four balls in it. She starts by setting up and hitting one ball, and then steps into hitting the next ball while starting her takeaway. By the time her second food is planted, she’s at the top of her backswing and starting the transition to swing through. She continues this, hitting all eight balls in a matter of 20 seconds.

Harrington saw the post and was able to see past the snowflakes to the value of the drill.

“I honestly don’t think there’s a better drill to do for golfers to improve their coordination,” Harrington wrote on Twitter.

The benefits of the drill are many.

“It’s hard to do if you’re off plane or out of sync. It naturally improves footwork/timing. It improves your grip and grip strength,” Harrington wrote.

We love a hardworking drill, and this is certainly one of them. If you’re up for the challenge, mastering this drill means you have good timing, your swing is in sync and that you have solid grip strength.
