LIV Golf’s Sergio Garcia has been appointed to design a new 18-hole Championship golf course at the Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) in Bahrain, a project developed in partnership with real estate company Bareeq Al Reta.

The 45-year-old Spaniard signed the deal in person before heading to Saudi Arabia for LIV Golf’s opening event in Riyadh last week.

The new course will be built at REHC’s existing site in Al Raffa, just a few miles west of the Royal Golf Club, which recently hosted the DP World Tour’s Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship.

As part of Garcia’s role, the 10-time Ryder Cup stalwart will create the design masterplan for the course and also serve as its brand ambassador. Yusuf Osama Buheji, CEO of the Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club, emphasized that the initiative “aligns with efforts to diversify development projects at the club, transforming it into a premier destination while supporting the sports and tourism sectors and attracting investment to advance Bahrain’s economic growth”.

This agreement follows in the footsteps of fellow Spanish golfer, Jose Maria Olazabal, who was appointed to design a new course at Al Areen in western Bahrain, marking the second deal for a new course by a Spanish golfer in recent months in the Middle East.
