Joel Dahmen says he was in a “bit of shock” on Sunday night at the Corales Puntacana Championship. It’s easy to understand why.
The popular PGA Tour pro looked in line to pick up a second career all week in the Dominican Republic, leading after the first, second and third rounds. He still led late on Sunday as well before a string of three consecutive closing bogeys left him one shot behind winner Garrick Higgo.

“I think I’m in a little bit of shock, honestly. It’s not how you win a golf tournament, I’ll tell you that,” Dahmen told reporters after. “I don’t deserve to win it. You know, bogeying the last three is inexcusable.
“Middle of the fairway with an 8-iron on 16 to hit it where I hit it, you can’t get up and down over there. I don’t know what happened on the short one on 17. I mean I’m obviously nervous, but unfortunately, I’m prone to that at times. You can call it lapse in concentration. It’s not like a yip thing, it’s not like one of those things, but bad time to do it. And then 18’s just a really had hole. We had 220 pin and wind surfed on it and hit a very average chip. I hit a good putt. I actually thought it was a straight putt and broke a little left on me. All of a sudden I wake up and I lost the golf tournament.”

That’s rough. And so is not being able to lock up a two-year PGA Tour exemption with a win. But Dahmen—beloved by many for his appearances in Netflix’s “Full Swing” series—undoubtedly locked up even more fans by talking about the tough loss after.
“Certainly was nervous,” Dahmen added. “I think in the past I’ve tried to fight against it and recently I’ve tried to take it more head on. Like when you’re nervous, embracing — have the adrenaline, like attack that and embrace and run with that. Like the first round there’s a little bit of adrenaline when you’re shooting 62 but you’re attacking and going after it, and today I want to be on the offense, and I really did. I was — obviously you have to control your breathing a little bit and try to control your heart rate, but at the same time you’re attacking and playing offense. I try to stay aggressive with my golf swings. I did, but just didn’t work out. Sucks.”
