Jason Day finished T-30 at the 2024 Masters, but it’s taken until September for the Augusta National vest saga (aka Vestgate) to finally reach a fitting conclusion.

During the tournament’s second round, Day and Malbon got into hot water due to a vest that was disliked by the Augusta brass … so much so that he was asked to take it off. The “busy” block-text-heavy item may not have fit in with the green jackets, but someone out there thought it was worth a good deal of cash.

Yup, the No. 313 white vest went for $18,000 despite an actual $248 price tag. Malbon put out the vest in the middle of the chaos, but one man didn’t want a replica. He wanted the real thing, no matter the cost.

According to GolfMagic, the money went into Day’s Brighter Days Foundation along with an extra $18,000 match from Day himself. The charity that he founded with his wife Ellie gives money to Central Ohio nonprofit organizations that give back to the local community. Some of these organizations include Stowe Mission of Central Ohio, Blessings in a Backpack, Habitat for Humanity-MidOhio, and The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center.

This is the best-case scenario for all parties. One wealthy individual gets to own a piece of Masters lore, Jason Day gets a solid chunk of change for his charity and Augusta National now knows for sure that Day won’t be able to wear this item again. If you’re also in the giving spirit, you can donate $18,000 (or whatever else) to the Brighter Days Foundation. And with that, it looks like we can finally close the book on Vestgate.
