Ian Poulter has revealed his excitement for the start of the 2025 LIV Golf League getting underway in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s capital city of Riyadh.

The Englishman recently finished the 2024 LIV Golf Individual Standings in 37th spot, out of the 57-man field, with only his second top-10 result of the year coming in the very last individual event in Chicago on Sunday.

With one more event counting towards the Team Standings in Dallas this week, his Majesticks Team are sitting in 11th place out of 13 teams in the rankings, the Ryder Cup star has already got one eye on next season’s opener at Riyadh Golf Club in February.

“It’s very exciting. As you said, our first tournament next year is going to be in Riyadh.

“I’ve never played the golf course, it’s going to be a new test for a lot of guys,” he told Al Arabiya in a YouTube interview.

“The tournaments we (LIV Golf) have had in the past have been at Royal Greens (Jeddah) and for us to experience what Riyadh has to offer gives us all an opportunity to spend some time in Riyadh and kickstart our 2025.

“It’s important for LIV to continue to grow the game in new territories, Riyadh being one of those destinations. I think a lot of us are excited to go. So I’m looking forward to it, it’s going to be a great start.”

The 48-year-old Majesticks co-captain also opened up about the tricky situation he is currently in with wanting to qualify for not only next year’s Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black, but future editions.

“The rules that have been set in place are difficult,” said the seven-time Ryder Cup player.

“I’ve played so many Ryder Cups in my years and I have been such a proud member of so many teams. For me personally, I’ve found myself in a tricky situation where I’m not a member (of the DP World Tour) and I can’t make myself eligible to be part of the team or even help out as a vice-captain or captain unless I do become a member again.

“Look, it’s not the best scenario but it’s what the tour is sticking to and we will see how things move and progress as things go.”
