In 2015, when the PGA of America took over operation of what was previously known as the LPGA Championship, rebranding it the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship with a new title sponsor, the overall prize money payout for the event was $3.5 million.
On Sunday, when a winner will be crowned at PGA Frisco outside Dallas, the purse will be nearly 3½ times that amount with the PGA of America and KPMG elevating the prize money payout to $12 million. That matches the U.S. Women’s Open for the most money given out for any LPGA major.

“We’re incredibly proud to be able to do that,” said Paul Knopp, the KPMG chair and CEO. “It’s all part of creating a standard of excellence in women’s golf. The purse is a hugely important part of that. … We look at it as the ultimate strategy when we think about the excellence we’re trying to bear to bring success. We continue to play this tournament on iconic courses that are recognised by the golf community every year. … We’re excited about where we’re going.”
The $12 million purse is an impressive bump from just last year when it was at $10.4 million. Minjee Lee, the winner in Texas, earned $1.8 million, which was the size of the overall purse in 2006. It was her third major title.
Here’s a look at the evolution of the purses in LPGA majors in just the last four years:
U.S. Women’s Open: $12 million in 2025; $5.5 million in 2021
KPMG Women’s PGA Championship: $12 million in 2025, $4.5 million in 2021
AIG Women’s Open: $9.5 million in 2024; $4.5 million in 2020
Chevron Championship: $8 million in 2025; $3.1 million in 2021
Amundi Evian Championship: $8 million in 2024; $4.5 million in 2021
