There’s never a bad time to win, but winning at the end of a year is icing on the proverbial cake for Jake Knapp and Patty Tavatanakit, who teamed to win the Grant Thornton Invitational Sunday at Tiburon in Naples, Florida.
“I tried to give Jake security out there and tell him to send it,” Tavatanakit said on the 18th green after their team shot a final-round 65 in the modified-fourball format to top Jeeno Thitikul and Tom Kim by one shot.
Knapp and Tavatanakit shot 27-under-par total for the week to take home $1 million as a team, meaning they each earned $500,000 from the overall $4 million purse. Thitikul and Kim split $560,000. Jennifer Kupcho and Akshay Bhatia were third and share $330,000.
Round 1 of the Grant Thornton was a scramble format. The second round was foursomes. The final-round modified fourball format was new. Both players hit a tee shot and then switched balls for their second shot and played that ball until it was holed. The lowest score counted toward the team score on the respective hole.
Here is the complete rundown of what each player earned from the three days in Florida. The money next to the team name is a team total to be split between the two players.
