It was back-to-back weeks for LIV Golf to start the year, with the second event in Adelaide, Australia after Adrian Meronk won the season-opening last week in Saudi Arabia. Meronk topped Jon Rahm by two shots to win his first LIV Golf event.

This time it was Joaquin Niemann who stormed to the top of the leaderboard late Sunday at The Grange Golf Club, shooting 65 to overtake Abraham Ancer and Carlos Ortiz by three shots. It was the 26-year-old Chilean’s third LIV victory after winning twice last year. He shot 67-71-65 for a 13-under-par total. Ancer and Ortiz both shot 71.

Niemann, who has earned an exemption into the Masters in April, took home the customary $4 million for a victory from the overall $20 million purse. Ortiz and Ancer both earned $1.875 million. Sergio Garcia’s Fireballs team won the team competition and will split $3 million. Ancer, David Puig and Luis Masaveu are on that squad. Jon Rahm’s Legion XIII was in second place. Rahm finished sixth individually.

The other big note of the week was Patrick Reed’s ace on only his second hole of the week in the opening round. It came on the par-3 12th hole, called the Watering Hole, and the gallery went bonkers once the ball found the bottom of the cup. Reed tied for 37th place this week.
