The Alfred Dunhill Championship, a key event in the DP World Tour’s Opening Swing, took place this week at Leopard Creek Country Club, situated on the border of Kruger National Park, South Africa.
With a prize fund of €1.5 million, this prestigious tournament served as the penultimate fixture in the five-tournament Opening Swing, which offers enhanced prize money and exemptions for its champions. These events are part of the 2025 Race to Dubai and play a vital role in providing South African professionals with global competitive opportunities.
This year’s edition once again had a stellar field, including Charl Schwartzel, who was seeking a record fifth Alfred Dunhill Championship title, alongside his LIV Golf teammate and defending champion Louis Oosthuizen.
Other notable competitors include eight of the last 13 champions of the event, such as Ockie Strydom, Christiaan Bezuidenhout, and Pablo Larrazabal, as well as prominent PGA Tour members in Erik van Rooyen and Dylan Frittelli. Rising star Aldrich Potgieter, who recently earned his PGA Tour card, also competed, alongside the 20-year-old Chinese debutant Wenyi Ding. Additionally, Altin van der Merwe, who made history by winning the inaugural Africa Amateur Championship in 2024, returned to Leopard Creek as a professional.
Golfers in the 2024 Alfred Dunhill Championship competed for the €1.5 million (approximately R26.8 million) prize pot, as home favourite Shaun Norris claimed his second DP World Tour title in style after coming from way back to win the Alfred Dunhill Championship by a single shot.
