Slow play isn’t just a pro golf epidemic. It’s spread to golf courses all across the world. It has no preference or prejudice. Munis and private clubs, legendary links and no-name dog tracks. Nowhere is safe from 30-waggle sadists and the Aim Point nerds, nor the rising tide of tempers that follow close behind.

A few weeks ago, we showed you a fist fight that erupted over pace of play during a friendly Monday night league match in Canada. Now the chaos has come to Florida, where 24-year-old Aaron Carbo was arrested and charged with battery of a person over 65 after allegedly punching a 79-year-old course marshal in the face when asked to speed up his pace of play. Gulf Coast News has the story.

Another Cove of Rotonda employee stepped in to help, striking Carbo in retaliation. That earned the employee a battery charge of his own, but according to eyewitness accounts, it was Carbo who was in the wrong.

“It’s terrible about this generation that we have, just beating up old men over golf” said one young golfer.

“He should never touch clubs again,” chimed in another.

Last time we checked, a lifetime golf ban is not a sentence that can be handed down by the American legal system, but it’s tough to say Carbo doesn’t deserve it. Regardless of what happens to the 24-year-old, however, hopefully this is a reminder to say zen on the golf course this summer. After all, nothing (and we mean nothing) ruins a relaxing afternoon like a fist to the face.
