Mauritius has a very long link with golf. It was the third country in the world to discover this sport in 1844 when Mauritius was under British rule. Golf is a “market segment” that perfectly matches the upscale positioning of Mauritius. The government, through the Ministry of Tourism and the MTPA, has made golf a priority of its strategy for the tourism industry, especially during the low season.

Today, Mauritius boasts ten 18-hole and three 9-hole golf courses, each offering a unique golfing experience. What must be emphasized is that the courses are in the north, south, east, west and centre of the country. A visitor cannot go more than 15 km without meeting a green. On the other hand, around these courses, we have five-star accommodations that make golfers pampered.

The world-class golf courses have exceptional facilities and some of the most beautiful scenery in the world., surrounded by rolling mountains on one side and the crystal-clear waters of the lagoon on the other, has won first place as one of the most beautiful golf courses in the Indian Ocean.

The Gymkhana Golf Club is the oldest golf course in Mauritius and, according to historic documents available, it was the 4th country club in the world where golf was played.

Another beautiful location is the Ile aux Cerfs Golf Course, which covers the southern half of Ile aux Cerfs, featuring a naturally undulating topography with volcanic rocks, lakes, and ravines, as well as a variety of tropical trees and plants.

Two golf courses, The Heritage Golf Club, and the Mont Choisy le Golf, welcome the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open, the only competition in the world that brings together the European, Sunshine and Asian Tours during the same event. The prize money of 1 million Euros is the highest for a golf tournament in Mauritius.

Mauritius has been voted by IAGTO golf tour operators as the Tropical Island Golf Destination of the Year 2024.
