Kamil Bensouda U18 Boys winner and Talya Sameh U16 Girls winner

The third edition of the Egyptian Junior Open at Palm Hills Golf Club concluded in huge success, where 53 amateurs spanning seven countries took part in the three-day tournament in Cairo.

The 2024 Egyptian Junior Open had a welcomed enhancement this year due to the Egyptian Golf Federation’s decision to elevate its status to an international event, therefore including it in the World Amateur Golf Rankings.

This move significantly boosted participation in the tournament with juniors from Canada, Germany, Jordan, Morocco, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia and hosts Egypt taking part.

38 boys and 15 girls competed over numerous divisions U18 Boys, U18 Girls, U16 Boys, U16 Girls, U13 Boys, U13 Girls, U10 Boys U10 Girls and U7 Boys on the Jack Nicklaus-designed layout, catering for all abilities and standards of amateur golf.

Some standout performances worth a special mention in highlighting were Morocco’s Kamil Bensouda, who claimed the U18 Boys division by a commanding 24 strokes, Egypt’s Tayla Sameh who took the U16 Girls by an eye-watering 75 strokes! The moment of the tournament going to Jordan’s Mohamed Alrawashdeh, who captured the U16 Boys title in a playoff, by holing this monster 40 foot putt holed from off the green!

At the end of 2024, the Egyptian Golf Federation plans to organise three major international tournaments, all of which are sanctioned as part of the World Amateur Golf Rankings. These tournaments are, in order of occurrence: the Red Sea Team Championship at El Gouna Golf Club, the Egyptian International Men’s Championship at Cascades Golf Club in Soma Bay, and the Egyptian International Ladies Championship, also at El Gouna Golf Club.
