After one round of the AJGA’s Team Taylormade Invitational at Streamsong Black, Charlie Woods sits in a tie for 13th out of 71 players. And yet, it would be hard to find a scorecard more impressive from any of the 12 players ahead of Woods on the leader board.

Woods, the 16-year-old son of 15-time major winner Tiger Woods, made just three pars in the opening round, all of them coming on par 3s. While that may sound like a disastrous day, Woods managed to not only stay the course, but he shot a two-under 70 to keep himself in the mix. First-team, All-Grit, just like pops.

The high-schooler made eight birdies, an eagle, five bogeys and one triple bogey, producing the most colourful card we’ve seen in a minute. And the AJGA website uses green for birdies, blue for eagles, yellow for bogeys and red for “others,” so we mean REALLY colourful:

Genuinely insane stuff. His dad would tell him he made one too many sloppy bogeys, but he has to appreciate the ability to keep fighting like Charlie clearly did with this round. This comes just three weeks after he made a big improvement in his second attempt at U.S. Open local qualifying, shooting a three-over 75, a six-stroke improvement over last year. He still missed by seven, but it was good progress.

Woods will begin Round 2 of the Team TaylorMade Invitational three off the lead of Alabama’s Tyler Watts and Texas’ Luke Colton. Just one back is fellow 16-year-old Miles Russell, a phenom from Florida who competed in two PGA Tour events in 2024.

UPDATE: In the second round at Streamsong Black, Woods was impressive again but this time avoided the big numbers, shooting a seven-under 65 with nine birdies to jump into a share of second place. He’s just one off the lead of Colton with one round to play on Wednesday.
