We’re inside a month until the final men’s major of the year, and the 156-player field for the 153rd Open Championship, coming back to Royal Portrush, is slowly but surely filling up. A year ago, the R&A ran into the unusual issue of having too many players qualify for the championship at Royal Troon—159 golfers meeting the 27 criteria outlined by the governing body. It’s not expected to happen again this year; 142 players had earned spots for 2025 as of July 1—20 more securing their places via Final Qualifying—with a few more qualifying criteria still to be filled.
Specifially, at next week’s Genesis Scottish Open, a co-sanctioned event on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour schedule, top the top three finishers not already in the Open Championship field will also earn invites.
Below is everybody in the field as of July 1. We’ll update this file in the next few days as more players qualify for the golf’s oldest major.

Is it the British Open or the Open Championship? The name of the final men’s major of the golf season is a subject of continued discussion. The event’s official name, as explained in this op-ed by former R&A chairman Ian Pattinson, is the Open Championship. But since many United States golf fans continue to refer to it as the British Open, and search news around the event accordingly, Golf Digest continues to utilize both names in its coverage.
