Billy Horschel announced on Tuesday that he will undergo surgery for a hip injury.
Horschel, 38, had previously pulled out of the Zurich Classic late last month because of the ailment. On a video posted on X, the eight-time PGA Tour winner said he will undergo a procedure next week to fix the issue, which will keep him out for multiple months.
“It’s an unfortunate situation with so many great events left on the calendar, but this is a preventative measure,” Horschel said. “I’m already itching to start rehab, get back to practising, and I look forward to returning to the course sometime around late summer, early fall.”

The surgery likely puts an end to Horschel’s Ryder Cup dreams. The former FedEx Cup champ has routinely been in the mix for a captain’s pick for the American team, yet has not appeared in the biennial match against Europe (he did, however, compete in the 2022 Presidents Cup). Horschel’s 2025 campaign has been mixed, missing five cuts and ranking 67th in strokes gained. He had also been confirmed to play in the DP World Tour’s flagship event in September, the BMW PGA Championship, where he is the defending champion.
Conversely, he has two top-10 finishes and was 16th in the U.S. Ryder Cup standings. He was coming off a strong end to 2024, highlighted by contending at the Open Championship at Royal Troon. Horschel was also a part of TGL’s inaugural season; his Atlanta Drive club won the championship.
