Buying gifts for your fellow golfer isn’t easy. Everyone’s so specific with what they want, and one can only own a finite amount of headcovers and dad hats. Maybe, just maybe, it’s time for something big. A purchase that will really make your foursome frenemies jealous … your own course.

It’s time to cozy up to your rich family members because a 162-acre, 18-hole course in Monroe, Michigan, is up for sale. That’s right, you can be the brand-new owner of Carrington Golf Club and truly live like a king. Well, as long as you have $2.5 million and $11,978 in property taxes a year ready to go.

The 911 Saint James Park Ave. locale was recently listed for sale by Wiens & Roth Real Estate of Lambertville and is well-known in the area for hosting approximately 30,000 rounds of golf annually, with plenty of local leagues.

“Carrington Golf Club opened as a championship public course in 1998. Carrington plays 6,873 yards and is walker-friendly,” the listing reads. “Our state-of-the-art practice facility offers a 12,000 sq/ft putting green, separate chipping green, and driving range with bent grass tees, target greens, and sand bunkers. Rated among the top 10 public courses in southeast Michigan by Detroit News/Free Press, Carrington is a traditional course offering strategic elements to challenge all levels of golf. Carrington also has a fully equipped kitchen with range/hood and pizza ovens to accommodate patrons.”

The course was designed by Brian Huntley, who has also worked on quite a few Ohio courses such as Deer Ridge Golf Club, Kennsington Golf Club and Eagle Creek Golf Club. The purchase will make sure to include the clubhouse, the pond and “breathtaking scenic views.”

“Carrington Golf Club has created an economic ripple effect that benefits our entire community,” said John Manor, Monroe Charter Township supervisor. “They have frequently hosted events and tournaments that draw large numbers to our township, many for the first time. They have continually supported local business’, nonprofits’ and companies’ efforts and provide both full-time and seasonal employment to many residents.”

Not too long ago, a 23-year-old purchased the Crystal Lake Golf Course in Wisconsin, so it is doable for all of those reading this. The $2.5 million price tag is certainly daunting, but perhaps some wealthy benefactor or a sibling not working in journalism who owes you a good holiday gift could help you out.
