Tony Finau set off a firestorm of speculation when he withdrew from last week’s Hero World Challenge. The quick—and ultimately erroneous—takes were that he was headed to LIV Golf. Finau later refuted that idea, revealing that he underwent left knee surgery to repair torn meniscus and remove cartilage.

In an interview with Golfweek, Finau called the rumours “not credible” and added, “I’m more than happy where I’m at on the PGA Tour and looking forward to 2025. When I tee it up in Maui [for The Sentry], it will all go away, so I don’t worry about it one bit.”

Maybe he’ll be spared the trouble this time after another withdrawal. On Wednesday, the PGA Tour released a statement from Finau, who said he had to withdraw from this week’s Grant Thornton Invitational in Naples, Fla., the event that pairs PGA Tour and LPGA players together. Finau, who cited the need to continue to rehab his knee, was supposed to play with women’s World No. 1 Nelly Korda, who will now be partnered with Daniel Berger.

“Playing with Nelly in 2023 was one of the highlights of my year,” Finau said in the post. Last year, the team tied for fourth in the Thornton, three shots back of winners Jason Day and Lydia Ko.
