Max Homa was back in Sun City this week, attempting to defend the DP World Tour title he claimed 13 months ago.
The six-time PGA Tour winner made history in 2023, becoming just the fifth American to lift the trophy after holding off Nicolai Højgaard and Thorbjørn Olesen for a four-shot win.
Joining him in the field are fellow Americans Will Zalatoris, along with Canadians Corey Conners and Mackenzie Hughes. South African golfers, led by Thriston Lawrence, are looking to end the country’s wait for a home winner since Branden Grace in 2017. Other notable names include Major champ Danny Willett, 2024 Rolex Series winner Paul Waring, and rising stars like Ryan van Velzen, Robin Williams, Aldrich Potgeiter, and Wenyi Ding.
While much of the focus was on defending champion Max Homa this week, it was Johannes Veerman who produced a stunning final-round performance to capture his second DP World Tour title, and it was a victory that seemed improbable at the start of the day.
Veerman began the final round five strokes behind the leader at Gary Player Country Club, but with a determined 69 — featuring six birdies and three bogeys — he set a clubhouse target of five-under-par, eventually enough for the title.
This 42nd edition of the Nedbank Golf Challenge, had a prize fund of US$6,000,000, and was part of the 2025 DP World Tour season, honouring the legendary Gary Player.
