John Daly told the PGA Tour that he lost his Florida home during last week’s Hurricane Helene that impacted much of the southeastern United States.
Reports emerged Friday that the two-time major winner’s residence in Clearwater was destroyed from the category-4 storm. On Wednesday, Daly confirmed the stories to the tour’s website, calling the hurricane “devastating, the worst I’ve ever seen.”
“I’m just glad everyone is healthy, that’s the main thing,” Daly told the PGA Tour’s Paul Hodowanic. “You live in Florida, you have to understand that’s going to happen, but not like this. I didn’t think it would be this bad.”
Daly’s primary home is in Arkansas, although told Hodowanic that three houses belonging to family members and friends were also lost in the Clearwater area. As of writing over 180 people have died because of the storm, with hundreds still missing. Millions in the region remain without power.
“I hope everyone gets safe and gets their homes back,” Daly said. “My heart just goes out to everybody.”
Daly, 58, is playing in this week’s Champions Tour event in Jacksonville.
