It has been reported by Spanish media outlet TenGolf that LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman, was in attendance at the DP World Tour’s acciona Open de España presented by Madrid at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid.
The 69-year-old Aussie, has a double agenda for being in the Spanish capital.
Not only is he on-site at the DP World Tour event keeping an eye on the LIV Golfers currently competing in Jon Rahm, Tyrrell Hatton, Patrick Reed, David Puig and Eugenio Chacarra. But he is looking for a replacement venue for LIV Golf’s Spanish tournament in 2025, due to apparent low attendance in 2024.
With LIV already having an event at Real Club Valderrama, on a five-year deal, it has been confirmed by the General Manager at Valderrama Javier Reviriego, that the deal the course struck with LIV Golf means the events don’t have to be held in consecutive years. Therefore LIV can head elsewhere in Spain to a different venue and go back to Valderrama in alternate years for example.
Hence, why “The Shark” is prowling in Madrid.
Norman is no stranger to hosting LIV events on former DP World Tour venues having held prior LIV tournaments at the following courses the Centurion Club (England), Royal Greens Golf and Country Club (Saudi Arabia), Hong Kong Golf Club (Hong Kong), Sentosa Golf Club (Singapore) and Real Club Valderrama (Spain). None of which the DP World Tour have returned to.
Greg will be happy to see that Jon Rahm opened his DP World Tour return with a three-under-par 68 in round one, three strokes of the lead set by Spain’s Angel Hidalgo.
