The DP World Tour wrapped up its South African swing with the €1.5 million Alfred Dunhill Championship, staged at Royal Johannesburg’s East Course, and it delivered another week that underlined the depth of local talent on home soil.

A strong South African contingent once again formed the backbone of the field in the fourth event of the Opening Swing, with several former champions returning in search of more silverware. Christiaan Bezuidenhout, the 2020 winner, was joined by past champions Louis Oosthuizen, Branden Grace, Brandon Stone, Richard Sterne, Shaun Norris and Ockie Strydom, giving the tournament seven winners from the past 12 editions. Each arrived with the chance to become just the third multiple winner in the history of the Alfred Dunhill Championship.

The home challenge was further bolstered by established DP World Tour winners Dean Burmester and Thriston Lawrence, alongside PGA TOUR champion Aldrich Potgieter, ensuring South Africa’s grip on the championship was tested by depth as much as pedigree.

Europe mounted a credible challenge, led by Spain’s Pablo Larrazábal, who was among those hoping to halt South Africa’s long-standing dominance of the event. England’s John Parry also teed it up in Johannesburg following a standout season that saw him finish 11th on the Race to Dubai Rankings and secure his PGA TOUR card. Spain’s Angel Ayora and England’s Andy Sullivan added further strength to the European presence after both ended the season inside the top 30 on the Race to Dubai.

The championship also marked a notable return to its roots, with Royal Johannesburg’s East Championship Course hosting the event for a one-year return to the historic Johannesburg venue.

With a prize fund of €1.5 million, the Alfred Dunhill Championship once again carried significant rewards, with the winner banking €255,000 after four competitive days on one of South Africa’s most storied courses.

Jayden Schaper won the 2026 Alfred Dunhill Championship after a play-off against Shaun Norris at Royal Johannesburg club.

The pair were tied at 16 under par after the tournament was reduced to 54 holes but it was Schaper who claimed a first DP World Tour win with an eagle at the first play-off hole after a stunning approach from a fairway bunker which he described as “probably one of the shots of my career”.
