Like its big brother, the LPGA has also reached the conclusion of the season this week. It was the CME Group Tour Championship at Tiburon Golf Club in Naples, Fla., where the total purse of a whopping $11 million with the winner again taking home $4 million for a victory.
Again. The keyword there. It was World No. 1 Jeeno Thitikul who put on a clinic and ran away with the victory for the second consecutive year. Yes, that’s $8 million along just at Tiburon. She shot 26-under total to be Pajaree Anannarukarn by four shots. Thitikul beat Annika Sorenstam’s scoring record title that has stood since 2002, before the 22-year-old Thitikul was born. Sorenstam’s mark was 68.697 when she won 11 times. Thitikul won three times this year and came in at 68.681.
Last week where was plenty of late drama to see who would get in—and consequently booted—the field. Three players got into the mix, moving three down. Anannarukarn was the 60th position and thus the last into this field. She takes home $1 million for finishing second place.
