A week after a historic Ryder Cup in New York there are some Ryder Cup mentions this week at the Sanderson Farms Championship at the Country Club of Jackson in Mississippi.

From the winning European team, Rasmus Hojgaard was tired from celebrating but playing to try to improve his status via the fall. His twin brother Nicolai, who was on the winning 2023 Ryder Cup team, was here as well. Vice captains Francesco Molinari (Europe) and Brandt Snedeker (U.S.) were both in action.

But in the end, the winner had nothing to do with the Ryder Cup. Steven Fisk, playing in only his 24th PGA Tour event, shot 65-64 on the weekend to end at 24-under-par 264 to collect his first victory, topping Garrick Higgo by two shots. Fisk’s life-changing week earned him $1.08 million from the overall $6 million purse.

Fisk, 28, birdied three of the first five holes Sunday in Mississippi and closed with birdies on the last three holes in a close battle with Higgo, a two-time PGA Tour winner from South Africa. Fisk entered the week ranked 135th in the FedEx fall standings, meaning he had work to do to earn exempt status for next year. Now he has it through the end of 2027 and vaulted all the way up to 65 in standings. Higgo’s performance moved him from 88th to 62nd.

A refresher: This was the second event of the fall. Nos. 51-70 have already clinched status for next year but are playing for spots in the first two signature events of 2026. The top 100 earn full status for next year. Those who rank from 101-125 at the end of the fall will have conditional status for next year and anyone outside the top 100 is eligible to attend PGA Tour Q-School to try to improve status.
